City of Tallahassee Deploys Resources to Assist with Hurricane Milton Recovery

To aid in recovery efforts following the projected impacts of Hurricane Milton, the City of Tallahassee gears up to deploy resources from electric, fire, emergency management and other critical service areas.

"At the heart of our City's mission is a commitment to service and as our neighboring cities prepare for the impacts from Hurricane Milton, we are sending resources to support them. Our team's expertise and willingness to serve will ensure much needed resources are immediately available to assist with recovery efforts," said City Manager Reese Goad. "This is what strong communities do – we join together and lift each other up."

Following their return home on Friday from providing power restoration assistance to Suwannee Valley Electric Cooperative after Hurricane Helene, Tallahassee's electric utility and fleet department will once again deploy teams Tuesday morning. This time, crews are headed to Lakeland, taking with them with a variety of trucks and machinery to stage ahead of Hurricane Milton. Their rapid response and expertise will be crucial in ensuring that power can be restored as quickly and safely as possible to those in need.

The City's water and wastewater crews returned from their deployment assisting Taylor Coastal Utilities and Suwanee Water & Sewer District today and are now readying generators, pumps, vac trucks and other equipment for redeployment in the coming days.

The Tallahassee Fire Department Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Team is deploying as soon as Wednesday. Activated by the State of Florida, and also known as Florida Task Force 7, USAR Team members are highly trained in rescue and recovery operations and are prepared to move where needed as directed by the State.

City emergency management will support Pinellas County with expertise in disaster response and recovery. The City is continuing to monitor the needs around the state and prepared for additional requests for assistance in the wake of Hurricane Milton.
