Stronger Together
Neighborhood Public Safety Initiative Launches August 24
August 21, 2017
An engaged community creates a safer community. To help strengthen Tallahassee neighborhoods, the newly formed Public Safety Collective is launching the Neighborhood Public Safety Initiative (NPSI). This citizen-based initiative will help address public safety in our community by focusing on crime prevention and education, community beautification, and community empowerment and volunteerism.
NPSI will officially kick-off on Thursday, August 24, at 6 p.m. at the Lincoln Neighborhood Center, 438 West Brevard Street. At this community event, representatives from the Public Safety Collective will provide brief remarks to explain the initiative, and neighborhood champions will discuss community goals. Then, attendees will take part in facilitated table discussions to help guide and refine the initiative. Attendees will also be asked how they would like to participate in the effort moving forward.
This effort will kick off in the Griffin Heights and Greater Frenchtown neighborhoods. In the coming months, a variety of events and efforts will be organized, including community assessments, neighborhood walks, community service days, a job fair and more.
The Public Safety Collective is made up of the Tallahassee Police Department, Leon County Sherriff's Office, the State Attorney's Office, Big Bend Crime Stoppers, Tallahassee Fire Department and the police departments from FSU, FAMU and TCC.
By building bridges, sharing information and finding collaborative solutions to neighborhood concerns, we can create a safer, stronger community. Learn more by calling 891-8363 or visiting Talgov.com.
